Easter Music

Here are links to two of the special songs the choir is working on for Easter Sunday.

The first is a setting of the Gloria in excelsis (Glory be to God on High--Song of Praise). You may have noticed that during Lent we ommitted this song of praise. To me, it seemed quite striking to go right from the confession of sins to the Prayer of the Day without saying, "In the peace of forgiveness, let us praise the Lord." But the Gloria will be back on Easter Sunday, along with our alleluias! The setting is called "Melodic Gloria." It has a congregational refrain which will be repeated throughout the gloria. The verses will be sung by the choir and by the pastor. Click here to hear a sample recording. It won't sound exactly like this, but it should give you an idea.

The second piece is a setting of Psalm 118, the psalm for Easter Sunday. The refrain for this psalm is actually the refrain for Psalm 118 in Christian Worship. The CW refrain came from this setting. The congregation will sing this refrain and the verses will be sung by the pastor and choir. Read through Psalm 118 sometime and see why this psalm would be chosen for Easter.
