Good Works

This morning's catechism class was on good works. Specifically, we looked at what makes a good work in God's sight. We saw that it isn't just what we do that makes something a good work, but good works are things done out of faith that the Holy Spirit has worked in us. They are motivated by Christ's love for us, and we use God's Word to judge whether something is good.

At this slide this morning we stopped for a while and talked about how important it is to rely on God's Word to guide in what is good rather than relying on the wisdom of the world. As an example, we talked about God's will for marriage--specifically the gifts that God designed for marriage. There are very few voices in the world that will tell us (especially young people) to do what pleases God when it comes to marriage. If we simply rely on TV or "what everyone else is doing" to know what is right or wrong--all too often we will be misguided.
